Can we use CBD Oil for cats?
What’s great about CBD is that it works in all mammals in the same way – by promoting the endocannabinoid system which plays a critical role in the natural regulation of various internal systems and organs. That means you can use CBD oil for cats, for your dogs, and for yourself.
Best of all, CBD oil for both pets and humans is the exact same thing, so no worries about looking for species specific CBD oil.
CBD Oil Isn’t New
While CBD oil has only really become a thing in the last five years, its medical properties have long been studied when studying marijuana’s medical properties. This is because CBD oil is derived from hemp which shares many of the same therapeutic characteristics of medical marijuana – cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids – but hemp leaves out one extraordinary difference.
Hemp doesn’t contain THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) – which is the cannabinoid that gives marijuana its mind-altering effects, and it’s the only substance in marijuana that is toxic to dogs and cats in high amounts. CBD oil from hemp is a major breakthrough because while medical marijuana has benefited many, it can’t be given to pets or children. With CBD oil, that isn’t the case anymore.
So CBD oil is not marijuana, and even though it contains almost all the same properties of marijuana it does not cause a high. The high is the first thing people think of when they think marijuana. If marijuana didn’t cause a high, but still provided medical benefits it’s highly unlikely that it would have ever been made illegal in the first place.
CBD Can Help With
This makes it easy to see why, despite best efforts, CBD oil will most likely ultimately be legal everywhere. It might be anecdotal, but in the eyes of the majority of people who used CBD oil, either for themselves or their pets, it simply works.
However, it’s also easy to throw out anecdotal evidence, because there are studies after studies that almost always conclude that CBD oil should be further looked at for treatment because it helps.
Pet owners have found that CBD has helped their pets with
Reducing anxiety and stress
Reduce cancer cell growth and spread
Promotion of general wellbeing
Regulation of insulin
Regulation of Sleep
Decreasing sensitivity to neuropathic pain
Control seizures and treating epilepsy
Controlling aggressive behavior
Why CBD Oil is Important
You read above about how both you and your pets create our own cannabinoids that attach to cannabinoid receptors located throughout the body. When these receptors are activated they produce regulatory effects over the region the activated receptors are located in.
The body naturally repairs and looks after itself, and has many systems and organs that do so. For example, the immune system produces inflammation to fight infections, the liver’s job is to detox the body, etc. The endocannabinoid system plays a critical role and watches over the systems that protect us.
But there is nothing watching over the endocannabinoid system, which is usually OK, but when a system is under heavy stress the ECS can’t always work hard enough.
CBD oil protects natural cannabinoids created in the body from getting broken down too soon by enzymes, and allows those endocannabinoids to build up and attach to more receptors providing increase protection and therapeutic properties.
This leads CBD oil to being great for individual medical conditions such as inflammation, but also great for preventative and general health.
CBD oil is not a miracle cure; some benefit from it as if it was, but by an equal token it might not do much for you or your pet. It’s annoying, but you won’t know for sure if CBD oil will truly help your dog or cat until you give it to them. But, CBD oil has minor side effects compared to the majority of pharmaceuticals and it’s very rare that it doesn’t help in some way because promotes natural health systems.
